Disabling Shopify's password protection

Shopify's own store-wide password must be off, or the app cannot serve your page.

Shopify ships its own store-wide password page, and it is switched on by default for stores that have not started a paid plan. While it is on, nobody reaches your storefront at all — including Loman Maintenance Mode. Your page will look correct in the app’s preview and be invisible to the public.

This is the most common reason a page that appears to be set up correctly does not show.

Turn it off

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Preferences.
  2. Scroll to Restrict store access.
  3. Untick Restrict access to visitors with the password.
  4. Click Save.
Older admin wordingSome stores still show this section as Password protection with a Enable password checkbox. It is the same setting — untick it and save.

“But I wanted my store password-protected”

That is exactly what Loman Maintenance Mode does, just better. Shopify’s page is a single fixed screen; the app gives you a designed page you control, and its own password protection for letting specific people through.

Running both is not more secure. It just means visitors never get far enough to see yours.

If the option is greyed out

Shopify locks this setting for stores on a trial that has not yet selected a plan, and for stores that have been paused. Once the store is on an active Shopify plan, the checkbox becomes editable.

This is a Shopify setting rather than an app one, so we cannot change it for you — but if you are stuck on it, email us and we will help you find it.
