Enabling the app embed

The theme step that makes your age gate appear — and the Save button people miss.

Loman Age Verification shows your gate by adding an app embed to your published theme. Until the embed is switched on, the app has no way to reach your storefront and your store behaves as if it were not installed.

This step is unavoidable and it is the one people miss most often. Shopify requires it, and it lives in the theme editor rather than in the app.

Turn the embed on

  1. In your Shopify admin, open the app.
  2. On the Home tab, find the Getting started checklist and open the Enable app embed in theme step.
  3. Click Open theme editor. Shopify opens your published theme with the app embed panel already showing.
  4. Find Loman Age Verification in the list and switch its toggle on.
  5. Click Save in the top right of the theme editor.
Saving is a separate stepFlipping the toggle does not apply it. If you leave the theme editor without clicking Save, the embed stays off and your gate will not appear. This is the single most common reason a correctly configured gate does not show up.

Getting there without the checklist

If you have dismissed the onboarding guide, you can reach the same place manually:

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes.
  2. On your published theme, click Customize.
  3. In the left sidebar, click the App embeds icon (a jigsaw puzzle piece).
  4. Toggle Loman Age Verification on and click Save.

Checking it worked

Open your storefront in a private or incognito window. Your gate should appear over the page, with nothing behind it readable until you answer.

Two places it deliberately will not appear, which are easy to mistake for a broken embed:

  • The theme editor’s own preview. A merchant arranging their store cannot work behind a gate, so the embed stands down in design mode.
  • An unpublished theme. The embed only runs on the theme that is actually live.

So test on the real storefront in a private window, not in the theme editor.

If you still see your storefront ungated there, work through My age gate isn’t showing.

What the embed actually does

It adds a small script to every storefront page. On each page load the script checks whether this visitor should be gated — whether the gate is switched on, whether the path is on your allowlist, and whether this browser already holds a pass — and if so it lays the gate over the page before anything underneath can be read.

Your storefront still loads underneath. That is on purpose, and it is the difference between this app and its two siblings: they send the visitor away to a page, which is correct for a store that has not opened or is temporarily closed. Your store is open and stocked, and a search engine that renders JavaScript should still be able to read your catalog.

Nothing else is written to your themeThe embed is the only thing this app adds to your theme, and removing the app removes it — there is no snippet to strip out of theme.liquid afterwards. See Uninstalling.
