A coach’s iPad or iPhone can pair with the golfer’s phone at the range. Each swing the phone keeps goes to the coaching device as it’s hit, for the coach to review with every tool in the app.
The golfer’s phone needs nothing to pair: no Pro and no subscription. The coaching device needs Coach.
On the golfer’s phone
- On the home, tap New session, then Record.
- Tap the coaching button on the recorder.
- The first time, type your name. Coaches you pair with see your swings under it. You can change it later in Settings, under Coaching.
- A pairing code shows, with how long it works for. If it runs out, tap Show a new code.
On the coaching device
With Coach, open the Coaching tab, tap Pair a golfer, and point the camera at the code on the golfer’s phone.
You can also open the recorder on the coaching device, tap its coaching button, and choose Watch on this device.
Once they’re paired, the golfer’s phone says Connected to the coaching device. After that, they connect by themselves whenever the recorder is open, with no new code.
What the coach sees
Every swing the phone keeps, filmed or imported, arrives as it’s caught. The coach can step through it, read its tempo, compare it, draw on it, and add notes and voice notes. See Reviewing a swing and Drawings and notes.
The coach’s drawings, notes, and voice notes come back to the golfer’s phone, labeled Coach. Each golfer’s sessions are kept on the coaching device, under their name.
Swings go straight from the phone to the coaching device, over Wi-Fi or directly between the two. Nothing goes over the internet.
Unpairing
- On the golfer’s phone, tap the coaching button, then Forget this coaching device.
- On the coaching device, choose Forget this phone in the Coaching tab.
“Update Kinograph on…”
The two devices work together across app versions, using what both versions have.
- Update Kinograph on device to coach with it means the two versions are too far apart to pair. Update Kinograph Golf from the App Store on the device named.
- Update Kinograph on device to send voice notes means the other device’s version doesn’t have that yet. Everything else keeps working, and the voice note waits until the device named is updated.
