Setting up

Where to put your iPhone so every swing is kept: on a tripod, behind you, in line with the target, with the ball in view.

Kinograph Golf works from one camera position: behind you, looking down the target line.

Where to put your iPhone

  • On a tripod or stand. A hand-held iPhone gives uneven results.
  • Behind you, in line with the target. The camera looks past you toward where the ball is going, the view a coach takes from behind.
  • At about hand height.
  • With the ball in view. The ball needs to be in the picture at address, not cut off by the bottom or side of the frame.

To start filming, tap New session, then Record. An outline on the recorder shows where to stand: stand in the outline, with the ball in the circle. Left-handed? Turn on Left-handed outline in Settings. Swings either way are filmed; the outline only helps you frame them.

What isn’t supported yet

  • Face-on filming, with the camera facing you from the side.
  • A shot with the ball out of frame.

You can still film from those positions, but swings won’t be kept reliably. The same goes for a video you import: it works best filmed from behind, with the ball in view.
