Everything Kinograph Golf does with these permissions happens on your device.
Recording needs the camera and the microphone
Kinograph Golf finds your swings by listening for each strike, so a session can’t be recorded without both the camera and the microphone.
If either is turned off, the recorder says which, with an Open Settings button. Tap it, turn on Camera and Microphone, and come back to Kinograph. You can also get there from Settings → Kinograph Golf on your iPhone.
You can still import videos without either: Import uses the sound already in the video.
Camera
Kinograph Golf records your session and keeps your swings. Everything else is held in memory for a few seconds and then discarded without being saved.
The camera also scans the code that pairs a coach’s device with a golfer’s. See Pairing a coaching device.
Microphone
Kinograph listens for the sound of the ball being struck, which is how it knows when to keep something, and records sound with the clips it keeps. The sound is analyzed on your device and never sent anywhere.
The microphone also records voice notes you add to a swing, when you choose to, and never while a session is being filmed.
Speech recognition
A voice note is written out as text on your device, so you can read it as well as hear it. Your voice stays on the device.
Local network
Used only to pair with a coach’s device and send swings to it, directly between the two devices. Nothing goes over the internet.
Photos
- Importing a video you already have. You pick it in the system’s photo picker, which hands Kinograph only that video. Nothing else in your library is shared.
- Saving a finished video. Kinograph asks to add it to your library.
- Replacing a video with its trimmed version. Only then does Kinograph ask to read and change your library, and only to replace that one video. Photos keeps the original underneath, so you can revert to it in the Photos app.
