Filming
Why wasn't one of my swings kept?
Most often it's the setup. Kinograph keeps swings filmed from behind you, in line with the target, with your iPhone on a tripod and the ball in view; face-on filming isn't supported yet. A very quiet strike can also be missed. Look under Also caught at the end of the strip: if the swing is there, hold it down and choose Keep. See Setting up and Filming a session.
Can I use a video I filmed with the Camera app?
Yes. Tap New session, then Import, and choose the video. Kinograph keeps the swings and cuts the waiting between them. One video at a time is free; several into one session comes with Pro. See Importing a video you already have.
Why can't I record a session?
Recording needs both the camera and the microphone, because Kinograph listens for each strike to find your swings. The recorder says which is missing: tap Open Settings and turn it on. You can still import videos without either. See Permissions.
Your swings
Why didn't the tracer draw on a swing?
The tracer needs to follow the ball for long enough after it leaves the club. It draws best with sky behind the ball's flight, rather than trees or buildings, and it needs a frame rate of 60 fps or faster. See What each swing can show.
Why are the coaching lines in the wrong place?
Coaching lines are still in beta. They can miss, or land in the wrong place, most often in poor light or when part of you is out of frame. See What each swing can show.
What does the tempo number mean?
How many times longer your backswing took than your downswing, to the nearest quarter. Tour players' full swings are often near 3 : 1. See Reviewing a swing.
Why can't I record a voice note?
Voice notes can't be recorded while the recorder is open, because it's using the microphone to film. Record one from your library, or once you've left the recorder. See Drawings and notes.
Can I watch impact at full speed?
Yes. Slow motion through impact or every swing in real time is your choice, under More options when you save. See Saving and sharing.
Your sessions
Where are my sessions kept?
In your library, on your iPhone or iPad. They're kept out of your iCloud backup, because a session of video can be very large, so save the videos you want to keep to Photos or Files. Deleting the app deletes everything it kept. See Your home and library.
Why is an old session locked?
Your newest three sessions open free. Older ones are kept, and open with Kinograph Golf Pro. Nothing is deleted because you don't have Pro, and you can delete any session to make room. See Your home and library.
How do I free up space?
In your library, swipe a session to delete it, or tap Clear old sessions. Videos you saved to Photos or Files stay where they are. See Making room.
Does Kinograph upload my videos?
No. Everything happens on your device. There's no account and no server. Swings sent to a paired coach go directly between the two devices, and a session you share over iCloud stays in your iCloud and your coach's. See the privacy policy.
Pro and coaching
What does Pro cost?
$5.99 a month, $39.99 a year with the first month free, or $79.99 once for Pro for good, in the US. See Kinograph Golf Pro.
How do I get Pro back on a new iPhone?
Open Kinograph Golf Pro in Settings and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. See Restoring a purchase.
Does my coach need the app?
Yes, Kinograph Golf with a Coach subscription, on their iPad or iPhone. You need nothing extra to pair, send, or share. See Coaching with Kinograph Golf.
It says “Update Kinograph”. What do I do?
One device's version is too far behind the other's, or the lesson was made by a newer version. Update Kinograph Golf from the App Store on the device named. See Pairing a coaching device.
