My page isn't showing

Six checks, in the order that resolves this fastest.

You have set the page up and visitors are still seeing your storefront — or seeing Shopify’s password screen. Work through these in order. In practice it is almost always one of the first two.

1. Did you click Save in the theme editor?

This is the most common cause by a wide margin.

Enabling the Coming Soon app embed does not apply it. The theme editor’s Save button does, and it is easy to toggle the switch and navigate away.

  1. Online Store → Themes → Customize on your published theme.
  2. Click the App embeds icon (a jigsaw puzzle piece) in the left sidebar.
  3. Confirm Coming Soon is toggled on.
  4. Click Save — even if it looks like it is already on.

2. Is Shopify’s own password protection on?

While it is, nobody reaches your storefront at all, so the app never gets a chance to run. Your page will look perfect in the app’s preview and be invisible to the public.

Online Store → Preferences → Restrict store access — untick it and save.

Full instructions: Disabling Shopify’s password protection.

3. Is a template published?

Templates → Your Templates. One template must show as published.

The Home tab tells you directly: it reads Active with the template’s name, or Inactive with No template published.

4. Is the visitor toggle on?

Home → Show Coming Soon page to visitors. If it is unticked, visitors go straight to your storefront by design.

5. Is your subscription active?

Home → Current Plan. A lapsed subscription or a failed charge stops the page from serving. If the editor shows Subscribe to publish where Publish should be, that is what you are looking at.

6. Are you looking at a cached page?

Your own browser is the least reliable way to check this. It may hold a cached copy of your storefront from before the app was set up.

Test in a private or incognito window, or on your phone on mobile data. If it works there, it was cache — clear yours and move on.

Narrowing it down

What you see What it means
Your page, correctly The page is fine. The problem is the app embed — go back to step 1.
A generic “Coming Soon!” page No template is published (step 3).
Shopify’s password screen Shopify’s password protection is on (step 2).
A 404 The app is not installed on this store, or the URL is mistyped.

That one URL splits the problem in half: it serves your published template regardless of the app embed, so if it looks right, the page is not the issue.

  • It worked yesterday and stopped today. Did you publish a different theme? App embeds are per-theme — see I changed my Shopify theme.
  • Most pages redirect but some don’t. Check your allowlist — a broad entry like /pages opens everything beneath it.
  • You see the storefront but others see the page. You have entered the password, and access persists for your session. Check in a private window.
  • The page shows placeholder text. It is published but never customized. Open it in the editor and replace the example content.
